Apply custom upgrades to subscriptions

The existing upgrade APIs availabe on Loop could only be used when an upgrade profile is configured on Admin portal. This meant you cannot apply upgrade via APIs if no upgrade profile had been created on Loop

What’s new?

A new endpoint now allows you to upgrade a line on a subscription as per your requirements without the need to have an upgrade profile. To upgrade a line, pass the existing subscription line that needs to be upgraded in oldLineId, and specify the new product and its quantity using newVariantShopifyId and quantity.

You can then apply upgrade profile in one of two ways:

  • Apply a selling plan: Pass a sellingPlanId to apply a specific selling plan configured in Loop. The discount is automatically applied based on the selling plan configuration.
  • Apply a custom configuration: Pass the desired billingPolicy, deliveryPolicy, and customDiscount to define the billing, delivery, and pricing configuration for the upgraded product.

The Custom Upgrade API is available on both the Admin API and Storefront API for v2026-04.
